Day 26 – Did we miss our turn?

Matthew 7:13 “Don’t look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don’t fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. 14 The way to life – to God! – is vigorous and requires total attention.”

This gets to the core of what outlandish devotion is all about. No shortcuts! So many have formulated the way that they think leads to righteousness. Those ways in the end lead to destruction. There is no shortcut to God. There is only one way, and that is God’s way. It is often over-simplified and sugar-coated, but it is indeed vigorous and requires total attention indeed.

I remember a trip I took with my family and a family friend. It should have taken less than two hours. It took us seven hours. Why, you wonder? Following directions requires total attention, and that didn’t happen. For a lapse in attention, we paid with our time and money. Pay attention and stop looking for the easy way out. That’s the lesson to be learned.

  1. We also paid with having to eat much later than planned.

But you’re right. In that case, all anybody had to do was read a map before we left home. Not after we started seeing signs for Colorado.

  2. yeah i totally needed to read this one. i’ve been looking for an easy way for my relationship with God to grow, but i just need to put in the time and effort, and it will grow. thanks kwesi!
